Module 2 - Introduction to Personal Care Aide Training

Students will learn about the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), and be provided an overview of the course. Topics Included Cover:

  • Requirements of a Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Module 6 - Safety and Accident Prevention in the Home

Students will learn about the slower reaction times and perhaps special cognitive capabilities that may make a client vulnerable within their own enviornment. Included Topics Covered:

  • Common Types of Accidents
  • Accident Prevention
  • Typical Hazards in the Home
  • Ways to Safety-Proof the Home
  • Policies and Procedures Regarding Accidents or Injuries

Module 7 - Food, Nutrition, and Meal Preparation

Students will learn about nutrition, meal planning, food handling, and food storage to promote a proper diet which provides the necessary nutrients for the body to stay functional. Topics Included Cover:

  • Importance of Nutrition to the Individual
  • Meal Planning
  • Special Considerations of Normal and Special Diets
  • Food Purchasing and Preparation

Module 8 - Requirements for Medical Recipients

Students will learn what, when, how and why they should be documenting certain things so as to be able to record and gather insight about the well-being of a client. Topics Included Cover:

  • Provider Agency Plan of Care

Module 3 - The Elderly

Students will learn a wide range about the elderly, from their psychology to their physical needs. Topics Included Cover:

  • Physical and Biological Aspects of Aging
  • Psychological Aspects of Aging
  • Physical and Emotional Needs of the Elderly
  • Critical Situations That May Require a Personal Care Aide
  • Orientation to Types of Physical Disabilities or Handicaps

Module 4 - Administration of Prepared Instillations and Treatments

Students will learn about hygiene related concerns such as bathing and dental care, basic nursing skills, and the body mechanics which may be used to move the client within the environment. Included Topics Cover:

Module 5 - Home Management

Students will learn about the many responsibilities that go beyond the health care of the recipient, including the home, environment, and safety. Topics Included Cover:

  • Care of the Home and Personal Belongings

Module 1 - Introduction to Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Students will learn the importance of basic verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, identification of factors which may impair communication, and methods to enhance interpersonal skills. Topics Included Cover:

  • Behavior and Appearance
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Commuicating and Interacting with Residents with Impairments
  • Legal Responsibilities

Orientation Module

A customizable overview module that introduces the class to the course. This module includes and details the following:
